WHAT ARE JUMP ROPE QUADS?

In jump rope, a jumper can move the rope fast enough such that it completes more than one rotation around its body in a single jump. As a family of skills, these jump rope tricks are referred to as multiple unders. When a jumper does this twice, it’s called a double under. When they do this thrice, it’s a called triple under. Quadruple unders, often simply called ‘quads’, are multiple unders where the rope completes four rotations around the jumper’s body before they land.

Quads are a very high-level skill, such that they are a staple at freestyle competitions. Quads can be combined with crossing skills to perform countless variations. A few notable quads include:

Swing Open Open Open
Swing Cross Cross Open
Swing Toad Open Open (‘Quad TJ’)
Swing Cross Swing EB
Swing EB Wrap 180 Unwrap Open (‘Hummingbird’)
Swing Mic Mic Open (Double Rotation ‘Quad Mic’)

Due to their extreme difficulty, most quad skills begin with a Side Swing since it allows the jumpers a fraction more time to take off from the floor as they begin the multiple under skill.
